The family of Matthew Spenceley

Matthew was born in North Stainley, near Ripon, to William and Ellen Spenceley.He was baptised on the 25th October 1842. Matthew is first recorded in the 1861 Middlesbrough census living with his brother Thomas Spenceley on Commercial street. At the birth of Amos and Ellen he was recorded in the Parish register as a Grocer and Milk dealer and was living at 12 Head St in Middlesbrough.Later he is recorded as a Dairyman and living at Gurney St , where his oldest son is also recorded in the 1891 census as a Dairyman.

Matthew's family is not connected to my Spenceley family and is one of the other Spenceley familys that settled in the Middlesbrough area.All other Spenceleys are decendents of William and Robert the two brothers from Pickering in the North Riding of Yorkshire.
